My name is Nouman Saleem (@noumes), and this is my job application

I'm a self taught front-end web designer, in my first year of college and I'm looking for a career, but before I ramble, I'd like to show you something I made in under an hour

testing

Oh, I also coded it. Go ahead and see it.

Though it's not done, you can clearly see my intentions. A fresh, modern adaption of your famous default layout. But you may be thinking "Where's the user customizability?". Well, it's even more advanced actually. It's called widgets, and it's part of my plan. Provide the users with widgets and visual tools to create and customize their pages. Include widgets like Flickr and other API integration to create a true "My"-space Here's a small example of that same page, but with a few user tweaks in background color, and widget position. View It

So why the refresh? Well, it's obvious that you could use some fresh ideas. I rarely see a Myspace link in the footer of web sites (blogs, portfolios, and businesses alike). Usually just a "Follow me on twitter", or "I'm on Facebook". But where's the love for Myspace. Also the Press isn't good, and I don't have to tell you the statistics aren't any better.

Let's just chat about it

I have many fresh ideas, beyond just design, and to explain them would stretch this page far beyond 10,000px in height. I live just 40 min's from your corporate headquarters here in Southern California, and would love to have a chat in a local Starbucks (the coffee's on me).

Even if you decide not to accept, I'd love to hear from you. You can send me a message at http://www.myspace.com/nouman

thanks for reading

Update 2/13/10: @Percival has very kindly invited me to his office at Myspace to chat. Also, thanks to everyone who has sent in messages and friend requests. I am trying to get back to everyone as quick as I can, and your input has been great so far.

2/15/10: Special thanks to @chriscoyier of Css-Tricks, and @OnePageLove for helping spread the news. You can follow along

2/18/10: In response to the 'facebook copy' criticism. I didn't mean for this to be a copy of facebook's design, and to show my intentions you can view an early idea for a possible settings page redesign here VS the current design.

2/23/10: The meeting went great! As mentioned, Sean Percival brought me in last Friday to Myspace HQ. We sat and chatted for a bit, and then proceded to give me a tour of the building. I was able to meet and chat with Mike Macadaan, Christine Wodke, and Joshua Couch. As well as meet Mike Jones. Overall they loved the story of this site, and mentioned they would love to see it end happily. I was told they would be in touch sometime soon so until then, fingers crossed. The experience was great, and I got to meet some amazing people.

3/09/10: And today, they offered me a job :)
